Bone China Plate - LOBULES
Anatomy of Digestion Design 2014
As an Addictions specialist, the liver is particularly interesting to me in my work with alcohol dependent patients. I came across this china plate at the Wellcome Institute and could not believe my eyes.
As the manifacturers write on the accompanying leaflet ' The microscopic structure of the liver reveals haxagonal shaped lobules. these feature portal triads containing vessels to supply oxygenated blood to the liver ( hepatic artery), bring nutrients from the small intestine ( portal vein) and bile ducts which collect the bile manifactured in the liver'
In my medical work the livers I come across are always damaged because of the hepatotoxicity of the alcohol , what a pleasure to see this beautiful and perfect specimen ready to eat from.
