This is the second of this week's posts from the National Portrait Gallery's 2015 BP Portrait Award.
Several years ago I worked for almost two years in old age psychiatry initially at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital as a junior doctor and later at Park Royal as a Specialist Registrar, I remember with fondness the hundreds of patients who suffered from the various types of dementia. It is refreshing to find an artist who has sought out this illness and has wanted to bring it into the outside world, these patients are all too often forgotten and abandoned to their isolated lives but they in fact can enjoy many activities including being taken to galleries.
I was really impressed to see that there are now special gallery outings being organised by the NPG for people suffering with this illness.
